Jon Hopkins is ace, isn't he? Everything he does comes with a sheen of pure quality whether it's his own records on Domino; film music like his mega score for under appreciated sci-fi classic Monsters or producing incredible records for the likes of Brian Eno and Coldplay. For that reason, we're beyond stoked that the newest member of our motley crew of noisemakers, Simon Dobson, has been a part of Jon's mind-warping BBC Prom at the Albert Hall.
Simon arranged the face-melting orchestral music for two of Hopkins' tracks, Collider and Singularity and we heartily recommend checking them out on the BBC iPlayer. Ticketmaster described the interpretation of Singularity as 'outstanding and impactful… not an obvious choice for reinterpretation… it's sheer scale was awe-inspiring' and MusicOMH described Collider as having 'all the drama in one piece… standing stark amongst a set that majors otherwise on subtlety, reflection and quietude.'
We were there last Tuesday and still can't quite get over just how extraordinary this prom was. Classical music meets electronica, but somehow face melting.
